This video by Amy Cuddy on TED is a good example of tolerating or managing discomfort. Amy was able to tell herself things (and have others give her feedback) to the point that she could do the task of presenting. Through doing this she got the feedback that she was not the person she thought she was (the imposter). She came to the realization consistent with what she was doing, she was in fact as you will see a very capable presenter.

At the adventures of Greg you can see his attempt to Pedal the ocean, was cancelled and you can see the comments about him not achieving his goal, about 40 comments as of the 2013, no one has judged his “failure” to achieve his goal negatively.
